Potluck
We will be supplying roasted lamb, a bit of champagne, some beer, beautiful campgrounds, live bands, and an excellent DJ.
We want you to bring the rest.
Many wedding traditions we associate with anglo/christian weddings for the past couple of centuries are based on a display of wealth and prosperity – that a man has arrived at a level at which he could afford a bride. Our union is about the great love we have for one another and not property, wealth, or the union of a kingdom. We measure our wealth in this love. Our treasures are the fantastic network of supportive friends and family we have been blessed with, our healthy bodies, and this beautiful earth on which we can experience this joy. It is these riches we share with you at the celebration of our marriage. We ask you to share in this tradition by bringing a side of food or beverage to share amongst our loved ones.
Shangri-La has two ovens, a griddle, several barbecue grills, a freezer, and a walk-in refrigerator. The refrigerator is massive and both it and the freezer are separated from the kitchen. Don’t be afraid to bring something that needs to be refrigerated. We won’t have any special utensils and serving tools, so please bring whatever serving tools you need along with your dish. Label your dishes and utensils in advance; if you forget, we’ll have masking tape and sharpies on hand. We’ll make sure everything is returned to you.
We are going to have one of the ovens reserved just for reheating dishes, but there will also be other activity going on in the kitchen and space is limited. We’re going to have a few volunteers on hand to whom you’ll hand off your dish when you arrive who can later coordinate storage, reheating, and presentation at the right time. Try to avoid bringing anything that needs to be cooked on-site, needs to be reheated by you and only you, or requires complicated or extensive last-minute preparation.
